WHY DO A PATIENT NEED THIS TEST-
The primary use of the test is to identify a disease named CONGENITAL ADRENAL HYPERPLASIS (CAH), which has the following symptoms :-

ABOUT TEST-
- The level of 17-hydroxyprogesterone (17-OHP) in the blood is measured with this test. The adrenal glands, which are two glands placed on top of the kidneys, produce 17-OHP. Cortisol is one of the hormones produced by the adrenal glands. Cortisol is required for the maintenance of blood pressure, blood sugar, and some immune system functions. 17-OHP is created during the cortisol production pathway.
PREPARATION BEFORE TEST-
- No specific preparations required for the test.
- Alcohol consumption is not advised before the test.
- Follow the instructions properly that are given by your healthcare assistant.
WHY DO A PATIENT NEED THIS TEST-
The primary use of the test is to identify a disease named CONGENITAL ADRENAL HYPERPLASIS (CAH), which has the following symptoms :-
- Excess hair growth in females
- Heavy voice and increased muscle mass
- Menses absent
- Infertility
METHOD OF DOING THIS TEST IN DIAGNOSTICS WORLD-
BLOOD TEST-
- Blood is drawn from veins from the back of the hand.
- In infants’ sharp tools or lancet are used.
- Blood gets collected in a small glass tube called a pipette, and a bandage is put over it to stop bleeding.
